The Importance of Style

When my 30th birthday came around a few years ago, it was a time for some serious self-reflection.

I had been studying game for a couple of years and was doing very well (75 in one year!). My girls at the time were mostly coming from the art/fashion world and a lot of them mentioned that I could dress better.

The problem was I had no idea where to start. I grew up in the skate/snowboard scene of the 1990’s and my nightlife included a lot of punk rock, indie, and underground shows.

You could say that my style was like a skater/punk rock/college student for a long time.

I cleaned up a bit in my 20s but my clothes didn’t fit right and I didn’t stand out at all.

It was time for a change.

I used this corner of the internet to find a few style blogs, some were ok, some had poor writing, some were too ‘fashion’ oriented, and some had unreasonable expectations.

Then I came across one where the writing was strong and spoke loudly to me, communicated intelligently, and drew me in the most:

I ate up the information in the blog, enjoyed Tanner’s stories and how they related to tried and true aspects of fashion, and really learned what a timeless look was all about.

I would recommend starting on his brilliant staples section–it will really let you know what should be a part of your wardrobe.

His blog provided a nice stepping stone and through it I could tell that he truly knew his shit. I decided to sign up for one of his personalized consultation services.

During the consultation, Tanner used photographs of me to determine what colors, textures, and styles would fit my look.

He even asked about my musical taste, where I went out at night, and what environments I operated in order to make his suggestions even more on point.

It was very in-depth and thorough. He set up a webpage just for my personal profile and suggestions.

Throughout the year he answered questions I asked about buying clothes for the different seasons.

Combine this new knowledge and my access to fashion oriented girls who went shopping with me and my makeover was a success.

I was getting compliments everywhere. Women at work noticed the change, girls were eyefucking me all the time, I was being approached by girls complimenting my clothes a lot, and my approaches were going 100x easier.

It changed my game completely for the better.

In most of the places I go, I am the best dressed guy in the room and this makes meeting women very easy.

Girls want to be approached by a well dressed man. Thats what they came out to do. They don’t want to be seen with slobs or guys in shirts that are a size too big.

A smartly dressed man shows that he pays attention to detail, can make good decisions, and has a healthy amount of self-respect.

Plus, when you are dressed well, you can get away with a lot more bad behavior…believe me on that…I’ve talked my way out of some situations that could have easily landed me in jail.

This is something that has truly changed my life for the better. I would encourage every man (and woman) to take a look in the mirror and recognize the areas they could improve.

Tanner is the only man I would recommend for consulting. He truly knows his stuff, takes his work seriously, and his service is worth more than he charges because it sticks with you for life.

I was in touch with Tanner recently and told him I was about to write a post on style and wanted to mention the influence of his service, and he offered to do an affiliate program with me. I’ve mentioned before that I take my words seriously and stand behind every one, so when I say that I recommend his coaching, I truly mean it.

If you do sign up for his Style Profile or Detailed Evaluation, enter the coupon code ‘goldmund’ for a 10% discount.

Sharpen your eye for fashion, understand what works for your own personal style, and change your game overnight: do this by getting the right clothes for your body.

I can’t stress the importance of this anymore.

  1. Would love to see some photos of you (neck down if you want to stay anonymous) in your most-complimented outfits.

I’ve spent a lot of money on fancy clothes, suits, etc., and it hasn’t gotten me noticed by women at all. My guess is that my clothes make me look too much like a contributing member of society. Given how much you say you’re getting noticed, I assume you must have a lot of edgy or badboy elements in your style?

    • I’ll do that at some point…when I get a full-length mirror set up. I do wear a lot of jewelry: necklaces, bracelets, rings, beard…etc.

And my style now definitely does not look like anyone else’s. Model girls tell me that so I know its true. That took a while to develop and Tanner really helped on that front.

Here is a recent pic of one of my favorite coats/hats.

    • It’s the details/accessories that can really set you apart. Do you always wear a pocket square? Have you found a hat that works for you? How about a rakish belt-buckle or flamboyant shoes?. Notice that Goldmund’s coat has a moderate rakish element to it with the stripe and the color-coordinated hat definitely draws the eye.

  2. Goldmund – Great blog man. I learn something every single time I read one your posts (most blogs just repeat the same worn-out advice over and over). So few people come at “game” from a holistic — improve all aspects of your life — perspective and even in this crowd, your content stands out.

Keep it awesome, keep it unique, and definitely keep it up!

    • Cool man, I’m glad you like it.

Life is meant to be lived…having sex with women is great but should not be the main focus.

I’ll be writing about this more and more in the future. I hope men everywhere can recognize what makes life really meaningful.

    • Cool man, glad you like it. Right now, I’m trying to come at this from my own perspective and am not reading anyone else. After years of reading about game, I saw the same patterns over and over again…it was time to break loose.

Most of these motherfuckers haven’t really lived life…or come close to death. That is important.

  3. Hey Goldmund, I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, great writing, man. I’ve found your adventures great and interesting
I wanted to know what kind of clothes you use in the summer as you can’t use coats, maybe not even a heavy hat.

    • When the weather warms up, I’ll drop a post on that and head back out for some more interviews with girls.

As far as the hats…I picked up a couple of really cool Panama/Straw hats when I was down in Mexico, I usually wear those during the day, sometimes a light flatcap.
